Duffy First to Lead Tennenbaum Marine Observatories
Emmett Duffy, formerly the Gluckman Professor of Marine Science at the College of William & Mary, is the first director of the Smithsonian’s Tennenbaum Marine Observatories. He will develop a global network of marine monitoring sites that will allow scientists to study coastal environmental change for the first time. Observatories data will advance understanding of ocean warming, acidification and rising sea levels. Duffy is an internationally recognized ecologist with expertise in marine biological diversity. He has authored more than 100 articles and led efforts to put biodiversity science to work in informing public policy, education and awareness.
