The collaborative Global Genome Initiative program at the National Museum of Natural History has been launched through a $6 million gift from John and Virginia Sall. This program, led by the museum, aims to collect, share and study samples of half of all known non-human species on the planet within five years. John Sall, a member of the board of the National Museum of Natural History, and his wife are longtime friends of the Smithsonian. Their previous gifts of support have been to the National Museum of Natural History and the National Air and Space Museum.
